“Little Pitched Houses: The Economics and Aesthetics of American Single Family Houses”

April 8, 2024

Wrote and presented a guest lecture on how public policy influences architectural design using the history of catalog houses and FHA underwriting practices as illustrative examples. Lecture tied the history of suburban developement in the first half of the 20th Century with the affordability crisis of today. Students were asked to visually analyze both historical and contemporary housing examples to understand the spatial rhetoric of the American single family home.
